Background

Bob qualified as a Game Angling Instructor (GAIC) for trout and gained his Certificate in Coaching Angling (Level 2) in the same year, 2006. Following this success Bob was invited to become a member of the prestigious Hardy Grey’s Game Fishing Academy of Instructors.

Bob has been appointed by the Duke of Northumberland to the board of trustees for the Northumberland Anglers Federation who are responsible for the policy setting and management of many stretches of the Coquet and Tyne Rivers.

Bob has been a passionate fly fisherman for many years, over this time he has acquired and built up an extensive knowledge of the art of fly fishing, still water fishing, and of the many rivers and still waters in the North East and Borders region.

bookIn 2001 he published some of his knowledge in the book Where To Fish North East Stillwater Trout Fishing. Bob now writes a weekly article for the Northumberland Gazette and Morpeth Herald newspapers.

As a school teacher – Bob combined his two passions for fishing and education by founding The Hirst Park Trout Ticklers fishing club. The aim of the club is to encourage parents and youngsters to fish together. Since its beginning the club Bob has introduced almost eight hundred new anglers to the sport with eight members going on to represent England’s Youth Fly Fishing team.

In recent years Bob has worked at Hardy and Greys – producers of the world famous fishing tackle and equipment. After several years at the company Bob has a thorough understanding of game fishing products. He uses only the finest tackle for all his lessons and tuition.
